Povetkin Injury Update

Recently IBF mandatory challenger "Sasha" Alexander Povetkin suffered an ankle injury in preparations for his title shot against current IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. After talking to Povetkin's doctor Dr. Sergey Vasilyevich Arkhipov, Povetkin's manager Vladimir Hrunov had a few words with fightnews.com. Here's what he said about Alexander's status:

“Sasha has suffered an injury while running in the woods near his hometown of Kursk. He tripped over tree root and that was it. He was immediately taken to local traumotologists who conducted an MRI to know more about this injury. Right now we have already got a roentgenogram and Dr. Arkhipov has voiced his diagnosis. We are sending copies to the Professional Boxing Federation of Russia and to the International Boxing Federation to comply with all of the official procedures."

He also talked about when he will start training and fight again...

“Sasha will be back into training sessions by the end of November. his diagnosis makes Alexander’s fight with Klitschko completely impossible till the end of the year. We shall be able to move on with the bout as soon as Sasha is one hundred percent healthy. I think spring of 2009 is a most reliable period of time for this fight to be set and fought. However, I can’t tell you any exact dates or venues. All our hopes and thoughts are about Sasha right now and we shall conduct negotiations with Team Klitschko a bit later.”
