IBF Approves Klitschko Mormeck

Current WBO/IBF/SUPER WBA/IBO/RING heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO's) rescheduled his fight with former cruiserweight champion turned heavyweight contender Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO's) on March 3rd at the ESPIRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.  The only problem was the date rescheduled for was the same time period the IBF had issued Wladimir to defend against a mandatory opponent. The IBF has stated recently that due to the circumstances with Wladimir's kidney stone condition they have approved Wladimir's defense against Mormeck and gave him an extension to face the mandatory Tony Thompson. So the fight will go as is without any repercussions.

Klitschko Chisora Presser

Today was the press conference for the heavyweight championship bout that will happen February 18th between current WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and heavyweight contender Dereck Chisora. Here are some video clips of the press conference:

Vitali Klitschko To Face Chisora

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko 43(40) - 2 will defend his title against Britain's Dereck Chisora 15(9)-2 on February 18th at the Olympic Hall in Munich, Germany. Chisora lost his last fight by controversial decision in a fight many including myself thought he won. Wladimir was supposed to face Chisora last year but had to pull out due to a abdominal injury so this will give Chisora a chance to finally face a Klitschko.

Klitschko Quotes

"I'm warned by his excellent performance against Helenius and will, as always, prepare myself intensely and meticulously."

"Chisora showed in his last fight, which he lost unfairly, that when his opponents are much bigger he can fight well on the inside."

"I will take warning from his excellent performance against Helenius and train intensely and meticulously as always. I won't let all his talking affect me, however."

Chisora Quotes

"Wladimir Klitschko did not fight me but now I'm going to get the championship belt by beating his older brother."

"I'm going to show Vitali Klitschko that his time has expired and send him into retirement. When his younger brother then wants a fight against me then I'll be ready to bring all the championship belts to London."

Klitschko's Personal Message To Fans On Mormeck Cancellation

In this video WBO/IBF/IBO/SUPER WBA/RING heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko talks with his fans in 3 languages about his cancellation of the Jean Marc Mormbeck biout this Saturday, December 10th and rescheduling for March 3rd 2012. Skip to the 1:34 mark for English.

Klitschko Mormeck Rescheduled For March 3rd

Due to complications from kidney stones, WBO/IBF/IBO/SUPER WBA/RING heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko could not defend his belts against Jean-Marc Mormeck this Saturday, December 10th.  But, Wladimir says he is still going to face Mormeck, and the bout has been rescheduled for March 3rd at the same arena:  the ESPRIT Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Klitschko On Canceling Mormeck Fight

Wladimir Klitschko spoke today about his decision to cancel his fight with Jean-Marc Mormeck,  Here is what he had to say:

"The decision to postpone the fight was the right one. The main thing is your health. I could not enter this fight without being 100% ready. I'm very sorry for the boxing fans who were anticipating this upcoming fight. But, the fight is not being canceled completely, only postponed. The pain came unexpectedly and was unpredictable and uncontrollable. Probably on March 3rd, this fight will happen.

My mother once had a stone in the kidney. She said childbirth was easier than dealing with the stone. I can't compare these two things, but I feel a deep respect for any woman who gives a child to the world. Anyone who has experienced this kind of pain can understand - it is difficult to describe. The last four days, I was in hell and I'm glad that I'm now in a position to give an interview.

A year ago, I unfortunately had to cancel another fight. This is what happens in life and sometimes in sports. When you lose, then nobody cares whether you're ready or whether you were 100%. When I enter the ring, I want to be ready. Right now I'm going to take further tests to make sure that there is no cause for serious concern. I am very pleased with the university clinic in Dusseldorf, they have done everything necessary. Unfortunately, it was not enough so I could go into battle, but I'm glad that life goes on without pain."

Klitschko Cancels Mormeck Fight

With recent surgery WBO/IBF/WBA/IBO/RING heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko decided to pull out of his voluntary title defense against Jean-Marc Mormeck scheduled for this Saturday, December 10th.  There are talks that the fight could be rescheduled for March 3, but the IBF would have to approve because Klitschko would be requested to fight a mandatory challenger on that date.

"We hope to know in two or three days. Mormeck is also ready to accept it," Boente said.

Klitschko had abdominal pain in training camp on Friday and went to Innsbruck for treatment before he was transferred to a Duesseldorf hospital where the stone was removed Saturday, but Klitschko returned to the hospital Sunday before a scheduled television appearance.  With there being a complication this close to the fight the team has decided to pull out.   This would have been Wladimir's 20th title bout and his 1st appearance since beating Britain's David Haye for the WBA title strap.

Wladimir Klitschko In Hospital

Wladimir Klitschko was recently hospitalized in Duesseldorf due to complaints of abdominal pains.  As of now the fight with Jean Marc Mormeck is still on for December 10th.  Wladimir’s manager Bernd Boente  believes Wladimir is showing signs of renal colic, which are kidney stones.

Boente said: "The fight isn't called off yet. Wladimir is doing well. There will be further examinations on Saturday, but we're assuming that the fight will be able to take place."

"Wladimir Klitschko had treatment for renal colic, but the fight is scheduled to go ahead," spokesman Klaus-Peter Dittrich told AFP on Saturday.

Klitschko Defends Mormeck As An Opponent

Some people have been giving Wladimir Klitschko criticism for selecting Jean Marc Mormeck as a title defense and Wladimir had this to say awhile back about Mormeck as an opponent on December 10th at the ESPRIT Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany.

"Mormeck is one of the most experienced that I've ever had.  During his career he won many championship fights, he is technically strong, has excellent boxing skills, and he's a very intelligent fighter. To underestimate him would be fatal."

I think this is a good voluntary defense. He is not just sitting idle but is deciding to stay active and there is nothing wrong with fighting a ranked opponent and former cruiserweight champion. Yes, Haye beat him but Mormeck gave him troubles in that fight and who knows what might have happened if they had a  rematch. He's not won overly impressively at heavyweight but has won none-the-less and I'm looking forward to the fight on December 10th.

Klitschko TKO's Adamek In 10!

Vitali Klitschko had an easy night defending his WBC crown against former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek.  The old adage that a good big man beats a good small man came to fruition Saturday night as Vitali easily used his height, weight, and skill combination to never allow Adamek in the fight.

At 40 years old Vitali does not show any signs of slowing down and came in at a low 242 lbs   In round 2 Vitali hit Adamek with a overhand right that made Adamek fall against the ropes and should have counted as a standing 8 but was not.  The fight continued with Vitali doing what he wanted at will while Adamek tried and made a game effort but was just in way over his head (literally).  The same thing happened in the 6th round ( overhand right and Adamek falls against the ropes) but this time it was ruled a knockdown and Adamek received a standing 8 count.  The fight went on the same way with more domination until the ref seen enough and the fight was called to a halt at the 2:20 mark in round 10. With this win Klitschko improved to 43-2 with his 40th knockout and Adamek dropped to 44-2.

Wladimir Klitschko Quotes

"I think the referee made the right decision. He probably could have stopped it a minute earlier."

Vitali Klitschko Quotes

"He's a very good boxer. He was a cruiserweight champion, he was a light heavyweight champion, but he's not good enough to be a heavyweight champion because it's a whole other league."

Adamek Quotes

"He was simply the better fighter and he won. That's sport. You win some and you lose some. This time I lost."

Congratulations to Vitali to his 40th KO victory and 43nd career win!

Wladimir has fought both fighters before and has defeated both by knockout. It will be interesting to see if either will have any better success this time around. Chambers has only fought once since being knocked out by Wladimir against Derric Rossy whom he beat before and defeated once again, and Thompson looked pretty good in his last outing against Maurice Harris whom he beat in the 3rd round...

Klitschko's Father Passes

Today was a sad day in boxing and for the Klitschko family as Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko's father Vladimir Rodionovich Klitschko sadly passed away at age 64 from a long and unsuccessful battle with illness. Vladimir Klitschko Sr. was a Colonel in the Soviet Air Force and he was one of the people tasked with the clean-up of the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl in Ukraine.  In the recent movie and documentary of the Klitschko brothers, Klitschko Sr. said most of his friends who worked on the Chernobyl accident clean-up were now dead. They were sent in with no protective gear, a suicide mission, basically.  Klitschko Sr. became sick for this reason.

Klitschko Sr's upbringing and success of his sons can be summed up by what he told Vitali when he was a child.  “There is one rule. When you fight, you must fight to win.”  Vladimir Rodionovich Klitschko got to see his youngest child fight and win the last major title in the heavyweight division and his sons fulfill their dream of holding all the belts simultaneously between themselves in the heavyweight division before he passed.  And with this I'm sure he was proud of his sons.  May he rest in peace.

Haye Partially Blames Toe On Klitschko Performance

In the post fight David Haye did shake Wladimir Klitschko's hand and admitted that Wladimir Klitschko put on a superior performance but said that a broken little toe also was a factor and a big reason why he couldn't spring into his shots to test Wlad's chin. So with the toe excuse now in place I think it would be appropriate to have some pun with this.

Haye was TOEtally outclassed in his fight with Wladimir.

In the theme of Bonnie Tyler, Haye had a TOEtal Eclipse Of The Heart Saturday night.

Considering how good of an actor he was at times from enticing the ref to deduct a point from Wladimr for leaning on him to flopping on the ground, Haye might have lost the fight but deserves a TOEny award for his other performance in the ring.

But seriously will there be a medical report on this or will it be a no show like the June 2009 back injury claim?  TOE be or not TOE be-- that is the question...

More to come! Got any?

Klitschko Defeats Haye By Decision

And the new unified WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heayvweight champion.. Wladimir Klitschko!  Wladimir easily handled David Haye over 12 rounds.  Haye had his moments but didn't throw enough and was not as aggressive as many thought he would be.  Wladimir was the aggressor throughout the fight. Here's how the fight went:

Not much happened in the opening round, feeling each other out, but Klitschko's round. He controlled it, touched him with the jab.

Round 2 was a Solid round for Klitschko.  He was just outlanding a tentative Haye. Landed a couple of nice rights in the rd. 20-18 Klitschko.

Round 3 was best of the fight so far. Some good action. Both landed some solid shots. It was a pretty even round in my opinion and after watching the fight this was Haye's best round.

Rd 4 was more of the same from Wladimnir -- jabbing keeping the distance-- and this round goes to Klitschko although Haye landed a decent shot right at the end of rd.

In round 5 Klitschko had a very good round, and landed a right hand that seemed to hurt Haye for a moment. Klitschko is winning this fight easily up to this point.

In round 6 Klitschko is still controlling the fight and Haye is not throwing enough punches, although Wlad has a small nick that is bleeding on his left cheek.

Round 7 was a even round and I have it 9-9 because Klitschko was docked a point for pushing Haye down, but it was a complete nonsense call. You could tell it was a flop.  Between rounds Emanuel spends the 1st 30 seconds complaining to the ref about this and explaining why he shouldn't have been docked a point.  This seems to have made the ref think the next time Haye pulls similar stunts in the later rounds.

In Rd 8  Klitschko boxing him to death. Haye is still not throwing any punches.

Rd 9 was easy for Klitschko. He's made it look pretty easy  with the jab and increasing left hook. Haye did nothing.

Rd 10 to Kitschko. Haey hardly threw any punches and Wladimir landed more than Haye threw. Also,  Haye keep flopping to mat and was warned.

Rd 11 was fo Klitschko, 10-8. Wladimir was credited with a knockdown, although it was another Haye flop and the ref having enough of Haye's antics creatively counted it as a knockdown.

In the final round Klitschko finishes very aggressive and strong after Haye lands a solid shot. I scored the fight 118 - 108 and the official scrorecard was:  118-108, 117-109, 116-110 for the winner Wladimir Klitschko.
Easy work for Wladimir who is now improves to 56-3, and 49 KO's while Haye drops to 25-2, and 23 KO's...

Congratulations to Wladimir Klitschko and Vitali Klitschko who now control all the belts in the heavyweight division and fulfilled their dream.

Weather Could Be Issue For Klitschko Haye Fight Tonight

There is a strong storm in Hamburg Germany.  The ring is under protection but the surrounding stadium is not.  The forecast says upwards of a 1/2 inch of rain and wind 20-30 mph. The winds could carry the rain onto the canvas of the ring and effect the performance.   As of now the ring is dry.  Jim Lampley has said,'Rain is steady and forecast says no letup. German boxing board makes final decision.'  Dan Rafael said that the rain issue was discussed at Friday rules meeting. IF fight had to be called for weather before 4th round ended it would be a no contest.  So far they held 2 undercard bouts in Germany without issue. A Haye rep went into the ring to check it and said no issues.

Klitschko Haye Predicition

This is my prediction on how the fight between WBO/IBF/IBO/RING heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA heavyweight champ David Haye will go tonight.  This honestly is a little harder prediction than fights in the past for me due to alot more variables at play.  Will Wladimir come out more aggressive than normal since he has hatred towards Haye?  Will he go the 12 rounds as promised to punish Haye instead?  Will Haye bring something new to the table like he said or is that just talk? ETC....

I think Wladimir will start off the fight a little caucious as will David Haye.  I think Haye will try to implement a strategy like he did against Valuev.  I think there might even be a few temporary exchanges but for the most part I think Wladimir will keep his distance and establish his jab early.  I think with the pressure Haye is under (this is his 1st time in such a large venue and potentially his last fight after talking so much leading up to this fight for 2 plus years) will cause him to fade and by about the 5th round Haye will get caught.  I think Wladimir will catch up to his movement and start laying some leather on him.   Even if Wladimir means to go 12 rounds to punish Haye, I think his power will be too much and he will catch Haye and stop him by the 6th round.

So my prediction is Wladimir Klitschko by 6th round KO/TKO.  What do you think?

Other Predictions...

CARL FROCH - WBC super-middleweight champion

I fancy David Haye. I like the guy - he's ballsy, he's gutsy, he's everything I like about a man and a boxer. He's a warrior, he means business when he gets in there and I think he's going to do the business.

Wladimir is tall and rangy and awkward and presents a lot of threat for David Haye. But the way David will fight is to put him on his back foot and scare him to death, smash him with those big shots. He's going to hurt Wladimir.

You saw him sit back for two rounds against Audley Harrison, but when he decided the time was right he jumped on him and did what he had to do to get him out of there. Little grin, job done, see you later, go and pick up the cheque.
Lennox Lewis

LENNOX LEWIS - former three-time heavyweight world champion

Against Nikolay Valuev, David fought a perfect fight; he kept moving, he stayed elusive. He has the speed and the weight in his arms and any shot he hits Klitschko with will be a shocking blow.

Klitschko's strength is his size, his reach and his weight. He has all those advantages, and on paper he is the one they will pick to win because he is a natural heavyweight. If they get into a clinch and Klitschko puts his weight on David it may sap some of David's energy.

But if David is able to stay with his game plan and move and throw combinations, he should do very well. Haye is light but he can use it to his advantage if he can stay away from him.
Amir Khan

AMIR KHAN - WBA light-welterweight champion

I think Haye could shock Klitschko - if he's smart, jumps on him early, hurts him and puts him on the back foot. But if Haye lets Klitschko settle in and work behind that jab, the fight could become very hard work.

But my money's on Haye, I think he could even take Klitschko out towards the end of the fight. He's got the speed and the power to knock him out, but I don't think he'll rush into anything just in case he makes a mistake.
Joe Calzaghe

JOE CALZAGHE - former two-weight world champion

David is my kind of fighter, one of the most exciting fighters in the world right now. He's quick, sharp and classy and throws punches with bad intentions.

He looks even better than I could have ever imagined. The punch power he is showing on the pads is frightening, and everything is thrown with speed. He's moving like a middleweight with heavyweight power at the moment, and that can only be a good thing.

David has a chance. Wladimir is the bigger guy and has the tools with regards to the reach and the weight - but David is fast, can punch and Klitschko's been on the floor 10 times-plus. If he catches him, David can knock him out.
Frank Warren

FRANK WARREN - Britain'top boxing promoter

Klitschko will be too big for Haye and stop him inside the distance. I know people straightaway will say, 'well, Nikolay Valuev was big', but Klitschko has got more mobility, he's got a great jab and he's got more boxing ability.

Haye says before every fight he's going to have a tear-up, but he never does. He ran and ran and ran from Valuev until the last round. For three rounds against Audley Harrison the crowd were booing because there was no action.

If Haye hits you on the chin he can take you out, but he's got to get inside that jab and let shots go and I just don't see him doing that. And if Haye gets hit on the chin, he will go down. But that's Haye's dilemma - if he's going to run, that will suit Klitschko as well.
Oscar de la Hoya

OSCAR DE LA HOYA - former six-weight world champion

David Haye is a great champion and a very charismatic person, but he's also a great athlete, which is one of his advantages over Klitschko. He can be one of the fighters who can knock out a Klitschko - he's that powerful.

He's fast, a thinker, he can surprise Klitschko, I believe. Klitschko's a great fighter, a big guy, so it's a dangerous fight for David, but I believe it's a very winnable fight for Haye.
Richie Woodhall

RICHIE WOODHALL - former WBC super-middleweight champion

Haye knocks him out. It will be a similar performance to the fight against Valuev, a very cagey affair, in that we won't see David just rushing into him - he'll stay on the outside, make him lead, make him miss, and then catch him on the counter with the right hand.

That will be the key, getting inside that jab. Obviously it's going to be a lot more difficult than against Valuev, because Klitschko has a lot more boxing ability. But David is a better boxer than people give him credit for - he can be elusive, he can avoid shots and he's sharp enough and quick enough.

It can be very difficult if you've got someone in front of you who's a lot shorter, it can be very tricky trying to nail him down with that jab, because you can over-commit. I can see Klitschko gaining in confidence as the fight goes on, coming forward, egged on by his own fans, and that could be his downfall.
Bernard Hopkins

BERNARD HOPKINS - WBC light-heavyweight champion

Haye will knock out both brothers. I'm not impressed with those guys. They've got the height and good records and a Hall of Fame trainer in Emanuel Steward, but otherwise they're ordinary. They ain't special. They're just lucky.

Wladimir will be real easy for Haye, but he'd run them both down and knock them both out. Without Haye, there ain't nothing going on in the heavyweight division.
Tyson Fury

TYSON FURY - British heavyweight contender

Haye's getting KOd, definitely. I can see Klitschko putting him down three or four times before the ref stops it. Haye is fast as lightning but he's a small heavyweight who has got no chin - and we all know what happens to people with no chin. In the heavyweight game if you don't have a chin you get knocked out, it's that simple.

If you leave Klitschko to his own game he'll jib-jab around the ring all night. But if you put him under pressure - constant pressure - and show you're not scared of getting hit, you've got a chance.

But Haye's not going to go to Germany for a war, he's going to run around the ring and nick a point here or there. I think that's the wrong move, you've got to put it on him. Look at the facts - Klitschko hasn't been beaten by a technician, all the fighters who have beaten him have been come-forward boxers.
John Murray

JOHN MURRAY - European lightweight champion

I want to see Haye do it because he's British and it's good to have the world heavyweight champion on these shores. I can see a Haye win by knockout. Klitschko is a class world champion but he's had his time and now it's Haye's time to shine.

He's younger and fresher and carries dynamite in his fists. The early rounds might be difficult until Haye finds his range and then he'll land one of his big shots.
James DeGale

JAMES DEGALE - former Olympic and British super-middleweight champion

In Hamburg, against one of the Klitschkos, it's a difficult task for Haye. Although, being British, hopefully he can go out there and do it and unify the division.

I see Klitschko knocking him out late on, that's the way I see it. He's just too athletic, too big and hits far too hard. But you never know - it's heavyweight boxing, all it takes is one punch, and David Haye can dig.
Anthony Ogogo

ANTHONY OGOGO - Commonwealth Games silver medallist and Olympic hopeful

Klitschko's never boxed anyone who's really come to win, not for a long time, and when he has, he's been beaten. Haye knows what he wants, to be out of the game in four months' time, so he'll go in there with so much desire to win and he'll be too quick for him, overwhelm him and stop him in about seven or eight rounds.

The Klitschkos are massive in Germany so I can't see Haye winning on points. But Haye knows that as well. He's got the confidence in his punching ability and a lack of confidence in Klitschko's chin.

It won't be a tear-up; Haye just talks about that to sell tickets, he's just a really good promoter. I can see him sitting off, losing rounds on purpose, lulling Klitschko into a false sense of security and when no-one's expecting it, whack, whack, whack, all over.
