Valuv Ruiz II Highlights

This is a highlight video of the rematch and WBA heavyweight championship match between Nicolai Valuev and John Ruiz.

Valuev Wins Rematch With Ruiz

On Saturday night(8/30/08), and with the scorecards reading 116-111, 116-113 and 114-113, The "Russian Giant" Nicolai Valuev defeated John "The Quiet Man" Ruiz again and regained his WBA heavyweight championship belt.

Valuev pretty much won this fight on his jab alone, which improved quite a bit. With his size, height, good chin, endurance, and improved jab, he is going to be hard for any heavyweight to beat except for 2 guys that come to mind......

Valuev Quotes

“I am happy to be the champion again. The new training methods have paid off. I was much quicker than in the first meeting.”

“I really have to thank Alexander,” he stated. “Thanks to his training, I have become quicker and more mobile. That was key to success tonight.”

Valuev's Manager Wilfried Sauerland Quotes

“In the first seven or eight rounds we saw the best Nikolai ever. He moved and used his left jab well before getting a little tired towards the end. Ruiz was a tough opponent but Nikolai beat him clearly..”

Valuev's Coach Alexander Zimin Quotes

“We knew it would be a tough fight. It was our goal not to fight Ruiz but to box him and Niko did just that. I am very pleased with his performance.”

John Ruiz Quotes

“I feel like I have won the fight. I am very sad about the outcome but I want to thank the German fans and the German people for their support. I hope to come back one day – for pleasure, not for business.”

Don King Quotes

"Nikolai is improving tremendously. He was great with his jab and the one-two punches. I think he is going to be the world´s best fighter. He has a great trainer and keeps getting better. I am sure he will unify the titles.”

Brewster Defeats Batchelder

On Saturday night(8/30/2008), "Relentless" Lamon Brewster now 34-4 (30 KO) defeated Danny Batchelder who drops to 25-6-1 (12 KO) via 5th round KO. Brewster started off slow with Danny using his jab, but eventually Brewster started closing the gap and caught Dan with a right over a his jab and that was the fight.

Brewster Quotes

"My coach kept telling me to come back with two jabs and then the right hand. I turned it over and he went right down. Everyone gave up on me but I'm not done yet."

"On a scale from one to ten, I'd give myself a one because the rust played a big factor. I wasn't being patient, I was trying too hard. I'll be back in the gym on Monday. I need plenty more work but I'll be back at it."

"It feels so great to feel like a champion again. Nobody wants to feel like a loser. I needed this win for my confidence, I needed this for my manhood, for my husbandhood, for my fatherhood. I needed this just for my spirit."

Brewster Talks About His Future

On August 30th at the Cincinnati Gardens in Cincinnati, OH, former WBO heavyweight champion "Relentless" Lamon Brewster 33-4 (29) will take on former cruiserweight contender Danny Batchelder 25-5-1 (12) in a scheduled twelve round bout for the vacant NABA heavyweight title. Here is an interview from Doghouse Boxing with Lamon...

Benny Henderson Jr.: How does it feel to be getting ready to get back in the ring?

Lamon Brewster: Like I have purpose in life, I feel like I am alive again and with purpose. A man without purpose is a dead man.

BH: You are going to be taking on Danny Batchelder, why Danny?

LB: Well, my promoter told me that it would be a good fight for me, so I went on his word.

BH: Have you seen tape of this guy?

LB: Yeah, I have seen tapes of him.

BH: What are your thoughts?

LB: He is a tough guy, he is not a guy that I feel like I am just going to walk through, but you know at the same time he has never been hit by somebody who punches as hard as I do. James Toney has the speed, but I have the James Toney speed with Mike Tyson power. He has never been hit that hard before.

BH: You are fighting in Cincinnati, OH, at “The Gardens” the place has a rich history in boxing, how does it feel to be fighting there with the history?

LB: I feel like I am a throwback fighter, so really it makes me feel at home. For one, I was born and raised right down the street, so this is a homecoming.

BH: Not only are you going to be fighting, but you are also promoting the card. How do you keep your mind on the fight with you also thinking about the promoting side of it all?

LB: I have a partner by the name Colin Bates, he is handling all that side so I can focus on being ready for the fight. My only concern is the fight with Danny Batchelder.

BH: Is there going to be any difference in Lamon Brewster this time around that we may not have seen before?

LB: Yes, you are going to see a seasoned Lamon Brewster, with the time that I had off I had time to think about my career, and really get a better appreciation for the game of boxing. Yes you are.

BH: You are coming off two consecutive losses, what does that do to your confidence?

LB: It does nothing to me because my first loss, I was not in the condition that I needed to be in and I was half blind. Anybody who knows me knows that I would have won that fight if I would have been in better shape, and not been half blind, but yet, it was called fight of the year. With Klitschko it was totally a different thing, I had been off for fifteen months and I had injured my shoulder in the fight, and I was frustrated behind the injury. He knows I can beat him, I know that I can beat him, but it was rust. You know what, this is a whole new day, I am not looking back, I am only looking forward.

BH: What can the fight fans at The Gardens expect out of Lamon Brewster come fight night?

LB: They can expect to see Lamon Brewster the warrior, Lamon Brewster the left hooker, the true heavyweight champion of the world emerging again out of the ashes.

BH: if you could send a message out to Danny Batchelder what would you say to this cat before the fight?

LB: I wish you the best.

BH: Anything in closing?

LB: I would like to tell people that, don’t let other people dictate in your life what you can and cannot do because God has the final say so in all things.

Valuev Ruiz 2 Press Conference Videos

Setanta Sports Klitschko Peter Video

This is a short video from Setanta Sports where Vitali Klitschko talks about his next fight with WBC Heavyweight Champion Samuel Peter.

Klitschko Peter Predictions

Samuel Peter vs Vitali Klitschko: Pre-fight predictions and preview with some of boxing's top journalist and personalities including Steve Farhood (Showtime) and Tim Smith (NY Daily News). Notice the stare down at the beginning of the video at the Peter vs Klitschko Press Confernece in NYC. Looks like Peter might already be regretting having to face Vitali in the ring.

My Prediction

I believe this fight will resemble Vitali's fight with Kirk Johnson or Danny Williams. It all comes down to how well Peter can handle Vitali's punching power. I believe his ability to take a punch has diminished quite a bit since Peter fought with Vitali's brother Wladimir. So because of this I believe it will resemble more of the Johnson fight with Klitschko just landing at will what he wants until Peter folds. But, if Peter can take his power, the fight will go longer but not any lnoger than the Williams fight. Danny has a much better chin than Peter. But like Danny and Kirk, Sam Peter has similar speed and stature, thus why I believe the fight will resemble one of those fights.

My prediction assumes Vitali is healthy enough to make the fight and doesn't get any injuries. According to Vitali he is in good shape. Hopefully this is true so this fight can take place. Good luck to Vitali on his comeback fight and on the Klitschko's dream of holding heavyweight belts at the same time.

What do you think?

Klitschko Peter Press Conference Video

This past Wednesday (Aug. 27) in New York, Heavyweight Champ Samuel Peter and Vitali Klitschko met to discuss their upcoming title fight that will be held in Germany on October 11th. Pound4Pound was there to get the press conference for you to see.

Klitschko Peter Press Conference

On Wednesday August 27th, 2008 at the Gallagher’s Steak House in Manhattan, a press conference was held to announce the title fight between WBC Champion Emeritus Vitali "Dr. Iron Fist" Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs) and current WBC heavyweight champion Samuel "The Nightmare" Peter (30-1, 23 KOs) on October 11th, 2008 at the new O2 Arena in Berlin, Germany. The fight will be shown on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET/PT on tape delay with the Chad Dawson and Antonio Tarver light-heavyweight title match following. This will be Vitali's 1st fight since since an eighth-round win over Danny Williams on Dec. 11, 2004. Vitali says he's in perfect health and has predicted to defeat Peter most likely between rounds 4 and 6.

Sam Peter Quotes

“I am very grateful to be here today. I want to clear up one thing. I am the true heavyweight champion.

Vitali, you never beat a champion. You say you are the champion, but you are not a champion. You can’t be the champion until you beat me, and you can’t.

“I have fought 31 fights and never ducked anyone. I fought with my eardrum broken and lost 25 pounds that night, but I still fought.

“I am making one promise today. I will knock Vitali out. Trust me. I will knock out Vitali, and then I will beat his brother (IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko). There is no doubt about that.”

Vitali Klitschko Quotes

“Thank you to everyone who put energy into making this fight happen.”

“I am pleased to say that I am back. I am happy to be back in the ring, happy to fight for my title. I gave away my title freely because of my knee injury.

“I feel sorry for Peter that I must fight him. Skeptical people say that I won’t win because I have been out of the ring for three years, but I did not lose the title. I am honored to fight for (WBC President) José Sulaimán, who gave me this chance.

“I have big respect for Mr. Lou Duva, but his fighters always say they will knock me out and it never happens. Mr. Duva is preparing Peter to knock me out, but this will never happen.

“I don’t underestimate Peter. He is a good puncher. I will give my best to be the winner, to take my title back, and to make history where two brothers will be champions at the same time. It’s a huge motivation for me.

“I promise the fight will not be easy and it won’t go to the scorecards. It will probably end between rounds four-six. I have a lot of presents ready for Peter for October 11.”

**Klitschko on his health: "Always my biggest enemy was injury. There's never a guarantee, but I'm 100 per cent ready."

"I have my health now and I'm very optimistic."

Dino Duva Quotes

*this is Peter's manager

“This fight was a fight that a lot of people never thought would happen. When the WBC ordered Sam Peter to fight Vitali Klitschko, I was the most skeptical about Klitschko’s ability. But, a few weeks ago, I ran into Vitali at the Olympics in Beijing. I saw him walk toward me with a fire in his eye and he asked me if the fight was happening. When I told him yes it was, he promised me that he would show up as ready as ever. After seeing him and the fire in him, my doubts were put to rest.

“We are so happy to work with SHOWTIME. SHOWTIME is pound for pound the best network in boxing. We are proud to have this fight on SHOWTIME.”

Lou Duva Quotes

*this is Peter's trainer

Peter reminds me of Rocky Marciano, and he will definitely knock out Vitali. You’re going to see a fight here, and I’ll tell you what, on October 11, you will see Peter knockout Klitschko.”

Bernd Boente Quotes

* this is Klitschko's manager

“This will be a great fight between two great punchers. I doubt however that this fight goes 12 rounds.”

Klitschko Peter To Fight In Berlin

After bids on where the fight between WBC emeritus champion Vitali Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs) and WBC champion Samuel "The Nightmare" Peter (30-1, 23 KOs) would take place on October 11th, 2008, the final decision has been made to host the super event in Berlin, Germany at the new 02 World arena, which has a capacity of 13,000.

If Vitali wins, as I believe he will, he and his brother Wladimir "Steelhammer" Klitschko(current WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion) would hold heavyweight belts at the same time, which was a dream of theirs. After that was accomplished, the only thing left would be for Vitali to secure the WBA belt which would make them hold all 4 of the major heavyweight belts(WBA,WBO,WBC,IBF) together.

Vitali Klitschko Quotes

"Samuel Peter is an exceptionally dangerous puncher who has already beaten some worthy opponents. I know that it will be a very tough fight, I will reach my dream of winning the world championship for the third time and being champion at the same time with my brother."

Sam Peter Quotes

"For me there is no doubt at all. I will defend my title. Klitschko is an experienced and very difficult opponent but I am younger and better. I will beat him and then his brother Wladimir - I have an old account to settle."

Vitali Klitschko Quick Q & A

Here's some quick questions to Vitali Klitschko with answers covering various topics. Enjoy!

Comeback: I can´t wait to step into the ring again. Unfortunately I had to put my comeback on hold, but now the time has come to pay tribute to all my fans, who kept on supporting me during my whole career.

Family: My family means everything to me. Raising three kids can be wild and crazy, but I can tell that it´s never getting boring at home.

Politics: The political structures in Ukraine and especially in Kiev aren´t stable yet, but this will change over the next years. I´m trying to make my contribution. After my boxing career I´m going to run for a political office again.

Talent: Everybody got their something. It´s important to discover young talents and support them in being all they can be and all they want to be.

Success: There a many ways to interpret success. Someday I just want to look back on a fulfilled life and don´t want to regret too many decision I´ve been made in my life. This is what success means to me.

Relaxing: Having a fine dinner with some good friend of mine.

Heroes: As a kid I always wanted to become a cosmonaut. Those were the great heroes of my childhood. In sports I have to say that Max Schmeling and Muhammad Ali are still my greatest idols.

My hardest opponent: Lennox Lewis - That was the toughest and unluckiest fight I´ve ever had. It´s a great pity, that we didn´t ever fought a rematch.

My next opponent: I am going to challenge WBC champion Samuel Peter this October. The WBC named me as Emeritus Champion, which gives me the privilege to challenge the official WBC champion any time.

If I didn´t became a boxer, I would be: …a pilot.

Wladimir Klitschko Quick Q & A

The following are Wladimir Klitschko's opinions on various topics. Enjoy!

Relationships: I`m still searching for the woman of my dreams, but I´m young and sure that every pot has its fitting lid.

Music: My taste in music varies from Hip Hop, Soul to Rock. I´m very open minded for different styles of music.

Travelling: It´s a privilege and I´m really enjoying it. There are so many exotic places on earth which I still want to see.

Fashion: I´m interested in the latest fashion trends. I prefer a casual look, but I also like a fashionable black tie at special events.

Breakfast: Unfortunately my breakfast mostly falls short, but If I got enough time I really enjoy it. Freshly pressed orange juice, german buns and a newspaper - that´s how a perfect breakfast should look like.

Environment: We have to recognize that we are running out of time. Global warming is definitely a huge threat, but too many people are still ignoring the consequences. We have to wake up and act before it´s too late.

Art: Art is an inspiration source to me. It´s fascinating how an artist can express his thoughts and feelings through his creativity. Previous to a fight I use to visit a museum. This is where I can find the calmness I need to focus on the upcoming fight.

My hardest opponent: My brother Vitali was the hardest opponent I ever fought. As amateurs we used to do some sparring. Unfortunately I have to say, that Vitali won most of the rounds. As we turned pro we had to stop those hard-fought duels, because of the high risk of injuries.

My next opponent: I´m going to defend my title against the # 1 mandatory challenger of the IBF - Alexander Povetkin - in November. He´s very talented fighter, there´s no question about it, but still very unexperienced. That´s everything I want to say right now, the rest will be shown in the ring.

If I didn´t became a boxer, I would be: …a doctor. I always wanted to study medical sciences.

Thompson Says He Would Take On Haye

After losing his heavyweight title shot to WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir "Steelhammer" Klitschko, Tony "The Tiger" Thompson (30-2, 18KO's) has had a few words as of last including some directed to former cruiserweight champion turned heavyweight hopeful David "Hayemaker" Haye.

Thompson On Haye

"David soft as Haye doesn't have the right to call anybody out. He can't take a cruiser weight punch and he definitely will not be able to withstand the punishment that I will give him. Remember the last guy he fought by the name of Thompson (cruiser weight Carl Thompson) knocked his ass out. I would love the opportunity to do the same. When I'm finished with him I will be the reason he returns his ass to the cruiserweight division where he belongs. But this challenge stands for any of the top heavyweights in the world who wants to step up and fight someone like me. If you think you are there then use me as a measure stick. "

Thompson On His Latest Performance & Future

"I definitely learned from this fight what it takes to become the heavyweight champion of the world and I look forward to redeeming myself for my team and my fans. This was not my greatest performance and I know I can do better. I want the opportunity to show everyone that this was a fluke. I will do what ever it takes to get there and fight who ever I need to fight to get another shot at becoming the heavyweight champion."

Witherspoon To Fight November 15th

According to Boxrec, Chazz "The Gentleman" Witherspoon 23-1(15) is scheduled to face an unnamed opponent on November 15th, 2008 on the under-card of the Jermain Taylor Vs. Jeff Lacy super-middleweight title fight eliminator. His only loss has came this last June 21st to up-and-coming heavyweight Chris "The Nightmare" Arreola in a 3rd round stoppage due to his corner stepping in the ring to help him after a brutal attack and knockdown by Chris. It's unlikely that he would have came back from that, but had his corner not interfered and got him disqualified there was always that small chance that something could have happened.

This time Chazz has a chance to prove that he his not such a "gentleman" with this fight in November. Hopefully he learns to not start slow, because that's one of his biggest weaknesses in my opinion.

Chambers Calls Out Haye

The 26 year old heavyweight boxer "Fast" Eddie Chambers, has recently expressed his desire to fight David "Hayemaker" Haye. Haye looking to make a good showing at heavyweight after stepping up from the cruiserweight division and Eddie feels he would make the ideal 1st opponent.

Chamber's last fight was a 6 round TKO win
over Raphael Butler this past June. This was a great win for him to rebound from his disappointing points loss to Alexander Povetkin who is scheduled to fight current WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir "Steelhammer" Klitschko. This is the interview by James Slater with Eddie Chambers, which occurred via phone and expressed Eddie's desire to face Haye.

James Slater: You'd like a fight with David Haye then?.

Eddie Chambers: "Sure, anyone I can get. Anyone who's in my way. I mean, I'm not calling Haye out exclusively, but, yes, it would be a great fight between him and me. He's another young fighter coming up to try and take his shot. A lot of people want to fight him after all that he's been saying - to shut him up, you know? He has to back up his talk now."

J.S: What do you think of Haye as a fighter?

E.C: "I like David Haye. He's flamboyant and he brings interest to the heavyweight division. There are more eyes on us [heavyweights] right now as a result, so I thank him for that. I like what he does in the ring, too. He had real pop as a cruiserweight, now we have to see if he can carry that up to heavyweight. It's possible he doesn't really respect the heavyweight division like he should yet."

J.S: What type of fight do you think it would be, between you and he?

E.C: "I think it would be a great fight. There would be speed and skills in that fight. It would also be two young guys trying to prove themselves. I have to reprove myself after losing to Povetkin, and David has to prove himself as a heavyweight. He has to get a very impressive win whoever he fights after all his talk. This is our time now, us young guys, it's time for people to see what the new age can do."

J.S: Would you come over to the U.K for a Haye fight?

E.C: "I wouldn't mind. It's definitely worth a trip, that fight. But I don't know, I think he should really come to the U.S. He's hot right now and he should come to the U.S and get some more fans over here."

J.S: Just talking about your last fight, against Raphael Butler. You looked great in scoring a stoppage. Have you put the loss to Alexander Povetkin behind you now?

E.C: "I did in that fight, but I still think about it as well. It's always there, and I know now it's time to grow as a fighter and become a real man. You saw a little of that against Butler. He was a real strong guy and my mind was more focused for the fight. I had a great camp, with no distractions at all. I sparred with (IBF cruiserweight champ) Steve Cunningham for Butler, he got me sharp and got my speed ready, even though Butler wasn't all that fast himself."

J.S: What went wrong against Povetkin? You were winning quite easily, it seemed, early on.

E.C: "It was more a mental thing, not a physical thing. I honestly did not have as much time to train as I'd have liked. I also had a few distractions and things on my mind. I wasn't overlooking Povetkin but I was looking ahead a little. I got a little arrogant, like a lot of unbeaten fighters do. I just felt I'd definitely get the win, as I was always had done before."

J.S: Do you think you'll be a better fighter now, having learnt from the experience?

E.C: "There's no doubt about it. I still believe in myself, I have to make other people believe in me. I know there are a lot of people out there who saw the [Povetkin] fight, and were saying, 'there must be something wrong with this guy.' It's up to me to prove myself now. I'm modest but confident."

J.S: In your opinion, does Povetkin have a shot against Wladimir Klitschko?

E.C: "Povetkin's very tough. Even though I'm not really known as a hard puncher, I hit him with some great shots. The thing is, he [Povetkin] wants to win so bad, at any cost almost. That makes him dangerous. He hasn't lost in years. I think he'll try and get in Klitschko's face and bring the fight to him. Even it he doesn't win he will make things very uncomfortable for Klitschko. He'll be dangerous early. He'll be dangerous late, too."

J.S: I take it you'd take a rematch with Povetkin in a heartbeat if he won?

E.C: "(laughs) I do want to get back at him. Not so much for revenge, it's more a case of wanting to put right what went wrong. And of course I still want to be heavyweight champion. So yes, I would like another fight with him if he becomes champion."

J.S: Aside from yourself, who are the other good young American heavyweights? ( a recent list of the top-five best young U.S heavies that appeared on ESPN T.V channel did not include Chambers' name)

E.C: "Well, there's a decent list of young heavyweights in the U.S. I would have liked to have seen my name on the list, but it don't really bother me that my name wasn't there. It's obvious some people think I need to prove myself. I think Chris Arreola is a good fighter, with his good win over Chazz Witherspoon. Even Chazz himself, even though he lost, is not out of the picture. There are a number of others, guys like Jason Estrada and Kevin Johnson, and Brian Minto because he brings exciting fights."

J.S: Do you feel you are more experienced a fighter than those guys, having arguably fought the bigger names?

E.C: "I think I am. I may not be as old as some of those guys, but I've been fighting quite a long time now. I'm just looking to fight whoever is in my way right now."

Haye's Training Methods

Former cruiserweight champion turned heavyweight hopeful David "Hayemaker" Haye recently talked about his training methods. He does a lot of unconventional things including incorporating a sophisticated weight training program, 7 meals a day diet which includes and high protein, antioxidants & vitamins B & C, and a high intensity sprints. This is what Dave had to say:

"This is not the type of stuff other boxers do,. My coach, Adam Booth, and I have been in gyms and we’ve had people look over and say, ‘What the f*** are they doing? All this new age crap.’ They are the guys who have stayed at British level while I have moved on to the undisputed world cruiserweight championship and now I’m stepping up to challenge the heavyweights.”

Haye On His Weight Now Vs At Cruiserweight

“As a cruiserweight, my body fat was about 8% and now it is around 12%, which will reduce itself slightly as we get closer to the fight,”

“I ate red meat only occasionally so that I could get my weight down but now I eat lean steak for breakfast every day, at least 1lb or 1½lb and cooked very rare, which gives me all the nutrients. To do the type of training I do, you need calories to get through it. For the muscle regeneration, you need to get the right calories as well.”

Haye On His Unconventional Methods

“The old-school trainers would pass out if they saw all of these weights, but I do a lot of weight training because it builds up strength and endurance if done in the right way. I’m not looking for bulk but strength. Strong and fast, that’s the combination you want.”

Sultan Ibragimov Interview

Boxingscene.com recently had an interview with former WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov who vows to return after his 12 round decision loss to currently WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir "Steelhammer" Klitschko.

BoxingScene.com: Hello, Sultan, I'm glad to see you again. How do you feel?

Ibragimov: I feel very good, thank you.

BoxingScene.com: What are you doing now? How are you spending your time?

Ibragimov: Right now I'm just relaxing in Russia with some friends. Before the fight with Wlad Klitschko I had very tough schedule, sometimes I would have three fights in a year. The weariness has collected, and my body desires to rest a little bit.

BoxingScene.com
: Sultan, when will you be back?

Ibragimov: Rest assured, I will be back and I shall become the world champion again. It was suggested to me to headline a show in Moscow against Travis Walker on September 6th, but I turned that down and another Russian boxer Oleg Maskaev will headline the show.

BoxingScene.com
: How long do you want to wait before returning?

Ibragimov: It will probably be in following year. I'll fight for the second vacant position in the IBF rankings.

BoxingScene.com: Will you still be working with trainer Jeff Mayweather?

Ibragimov: I don't know yet. I'll think above it when I plan return to the ring. Now I support myself in order to stay in good shape.

Brewster Fights August 30th

According to recent news, "Relentless" Lamon Brewster 33-4(29) is going to return to the ring against an unnamed opponent on August 30th, 2008. The last time Brewster fought was when losing his rematch against current WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir "Steelhammer" Klitschko on July 7th, 2007. I think Lamon will still prove difficult for a lot of fighters out there in the division, but at age 35, and with years of hard fighting, I'll be curious to how much he has left. I guess we'll see a glimpse of how much on August 30th.....
