Maskaev vs. Peter This Saturday March 8th

Oleg Maskaev and Sam Peter collide in Cancun, Mexico this Saturday March the 8th for the WBC Heavyweight Title. Sam Peter has been waiting awhile for his chance to fight Oleg and should be very hungry. Lets just hope he wasn't too hungry coming into this fight and has kept his weight at a optimum level for fighting.

Two Saturday's ago there was the 1st unification of titles between WBO belt holder Sultan Ibragimov and IBF/IBO belt holder Wladimir Klitschko since 1999 when Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield dueled. Although this is a start only half (The IBO isn't considered 1 of the 4 main belts) of the belts were unified. So, this Saturday's fight and winner is important in the outcome of where further unification may lead.

I believe Oleg Maskaev's age (39) versus Sam Peter's youth (26) will play an important role in the outcome of this fight. Oleg has been knocked out by big guys with big punches in his past (Kirk Johnson, David Tua, Lance Whitaker), but then again he has defeated the big puncher Hasim Rachman twice. But again due to the age factor and Sam Peters desire and long time wait for a chance at a championship, I see Sam Peter winning this fight by way of knockout by no more than the mid rounds.

The fight this Saturday will be shown for free for HBO viewers and will be shown live from Cancun, Mexico @ 9:30 Eastern Standard Time.
