Chisora Spared Jail Ahead Of Klitschko Fight

Derek Chisora got in trouble for an attacking his former girlfriend and escaped a jail sentence which would have ruined his chances from facing WBO/IBF/IBO/RING heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on December 11th.

Chisora said that he was angry because he suspected his girlfriend of cheating.

Chisora guilty of assaulting his then girlfriend, and sentenced to carry out 150 hours of community service, pay $2,400 in compensation and additional costs. He also received a 12-week suspended jail sentence.  He could face further sanctions though because he now has to appear before the British Boxing Board of Control

Chisora had a previous conviction of assault and Magistrate Quentin Purdy told him, “Your behavior on May 28 was disgraceful and downright humiliating…You clearly have a problem with violence and that has got to stop or your career will be over”.

So the fight with Wladimir is going to happen still assuming Chisora doesn't do anything else to jeopardize this fight...

HBO Won't Show Klitschko vs Povetkin?

For those of you who looked forward to the Ring, IBF, WBO, IBO heavyweight championship fight between current champion Wladimir Klitschko and 1996 Superheavyweight Olympic champion vs the #1 IBF mandatory and 2004 Superheavyweight Olympic champ Alexander Povetkin, well you may still be able to watch it somewhere(most likely online),  but not on HBO!

Who knows what HBO is thinking.  They supported the Klitschko's in the past and were going to show the Povetkin fight back in December 2008.  So why not now in September 2010 less than 2 years later?
According to the Klitschko team, mainly Bernd Boente and adviser Shelly Finkel, they made a deal with the Senior Vice President of HBO Sports Kery Davis and then things were later cut by the President of HBO Ross Greenburg who stated he has no interest in buying this fight, and even stated that he is not interested in fights unless the Klitschko's face David Haye or Tomasz Adamek. Obviously the Klitschko camp is furious. Here are some quotes from those in the Klitschko camp.

Bernd Boente Quotes

"We are really frustrated. Shelly is furious. Wladimir, too. We were counting on it. This cost us a quarter of a million dollars. If they had told us this at the beginning, we would have had the fight on Showtime. Now we have neither. Not only is HBO screwing us, they are screwing American boxing fans. I am not only surprised, I am shocked."

So whats going on here is HBO allegedly promised the 11th, while Showtime needed the 18th, but they went with HBO and got the venue but now can't do the 18th so this is costing them $250,000 since it won't air on Showtime.

"What HBO did to us is absolutely disgusting. Kery promised me and also Shelly on the telephone that he will do the fight. We had agreed. The worst thing is that Kery said, 'We can do the fight on the 11th but not on the 18th.' Showtime could do it on the 18th but not on the 11th. We made a deal with HBO for the 11th and we said to the German soccer league before they planned their schedule to please make sure that on the 11th there is no home game for Frankfurt because we have an American TV station on board. They said OK. And then HBO screwed us and now we lose $250,000."

"If we knew HBO wouldn't do the fight, we would have asked for [the stadium on] Sept. 18 and Showtime would have shown the fight. Now we lose all that money completely, and it's HBO's fault.

"[Davis] should have talked to his boss first before you promise something. You can't promise me and Shelly and then not do it. Showtime played it very straight with us about their situation. HBO did not. I'll tell you one thing: If either brother ever fights David Haye, I will make sure and the brothers will make sure that HBO doesn't cover the fight and that it will go to Showtime.

"HBO's lie cost us $250,000. It's not like Wladimir is fighting a bum. Povetkin is undefeated, he's an Olympic champion and everyone ranks him very highly. A lot of people want to see the fight.

"Wladimir is totally pissed and really disappointed. He thought a promise is a promise, and if you promise someone, you have to stand by your promise. We have been on HBO for 23 fights [between the brothers], but I guess that doesn't mean anything. Maybe Ross has something against Germany or Ukrainians. I don't know what it is. You'd think maybe he would call Wladimir and Vitali and say he's sorry."

"Whether Wladimir or Vitali fight Haye eventually, we will make sure the fight is not on HBO. HBO will not cover anymore Klitschko fights. On the Haye fight, Wladimir said to me that HBO thinks that they will have it 100 percent because they always overpay if they want something. But for him it is not about the money, it's about fair play."

When asked if he will take Showtime even if HBO offers a lot Boente said, "Yes, absolutely."

Also, if they can't get it on a network like ESPN he said, "If it's not ESPN, we'll do it pay-per-view."

Ray Stallone who is a HBO spokesman had a few words in regards to Boente's assertion:

"HBO's goal, as always, is to televise the biggest fights in the sport. We recognize that both Wladimir and Vitali are among the sport's most accomplished performers. With a combined total of 23 appearances on HBO, it's reasonable to say that the relationship has been productive for all parties. Going forward, our position is clear: If a heavyweight title fight between Wladimir or Vitali and David Haye can be made, regardless of the site, we will be first in line to make an offer to televise it in the U.S. In addition, if any other opponent emerges that we think will get the U.S. market excited about a prospective title fight, we will surely be in line to try and buy the fight for the U.S. market."

"HBO wants the heavyweight division to thrive, and when Wladimir or Vitali fight in the U.S. or take on any opponent that we think will register in this country, we are prepared to discuss those fights."

Banks vs Gavern On Klitschko Sosnowski Card

On the undercard of the WBC heavyweight championship fight between Vitali Klitschko vs Albert Sosnowski this May 29th, the 27 year old current NABF heavyweight Jonathan Banks (24-1(17) overall and 4-0(3) as a heavyweight) will take on the 33 year old Jason Gavern 19-7-3(8).

Banks got his NABF title last by beating Travis Walker by knockout back in March on the undercard of Wladimir Klitschko vs Eddie Chambers.

Should be a decent match-up. If Banks wins, it would be interesting to see if Banks get a rematch with Adamek at heavyweight...

Klitschko vs Valuev A No Go

After lengthy negotiations, the heavyweight matchup between current WBC heavyweight champion "Dr. Ironfist" Vitali Klitschko and the 7' + tall and former WBA heavyweight champion "The Beast from the East" Nicolai Valuev will not be happening after all as confirmed by BILD. Vitali Klitschko's team has tried their best to get the Russian giant into the ring, but Valuev's team appears to not want to fight Vitali by wanting too many demands.

As to why I think the fight isn't happening, I believe they know Valuev will lose for sure and they think they can make more money with Valuev on a few more fights and another potentially safer route against another champion in the future who is not a Klitschko(Haye for example, or potentially another champion if Vitali retires).

Here's what Vitali Klitschko's manager Bernd Bonte had to say about this fight failing in negotiations:

"Promoter Don King is crazy. He makes demands for Valuev that are simply not acceptable.."

Harrison Wants Fight With Klitschko's

Looks like you can add Audley Harrison to the latest fighter saying he wants to fight the Klitschko's. Audley is on another "comeback" fight and hopes a win in his next fight will put him on route to a heavyweight championship fight with one of the Klitschko's.

He wants to fight them rather than Haye he says because he feels the public eye views them as champions(stating the obvious are we).

He might want to double check who has which belts though, because as you can see in this video, he points out Wladimir Klitsclhko specifically as the brother to fight and then goes on to say that a fight with Haye then as "WBC" champion would be good. Wladimir Klitschko isnt the WBC champion that's his brother. Anyway, on to the video you can see what he had to say..

Haye vs Ruiz Is Official

It's official. The newly crowned WBA champion David "Hayemaker" Haye will have his 1st title defense against former champion and ring veteran John "The Quietman" Ruiz on April 3rd at the The MEN Arena in Manchester, UK.

David Haye has pulled out of 2 fights with the Klitschko's. The 1st fight was supposed to be with Wladimir Klitschko on June 20th, 2009, but Haye pulled out with a injury only to promise new dates to postpone. Klitschko instead fought Chagaev on the original date and won.

The 2nd time was with Wladimir's brother Vitali when negotiations were to the point where the fight was about to be signed only to be foiled by Haye signing to instead fight the WBC Nicolai Valuev.

Haye should win this fight to line up a potential fight with the Klitschko's, but I wouldn't be too surprised if Ruiz pulls off the upset.

The British channel Sky Sports is going to make this a pay-per-view event charging approx £15.00 (around $30.00) for the fight. The question is will the public be interested in seeing Haye fight Ruiz which has been in a few snore fests in the past which the public most likely will not have forgotten.

Haye Quotes

"It's been ten years since the heavyweight championship has been fought in Britain. Everyone knows I had to go to Germany to take the [WBA] title from Nikolai Valuev. Now it's time to showcase my skills again in front of the great British public. I'm delighted to have the fight at The MEN Arena. I've been there on many nights to watch Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, even Mike Tyson, and the atmosphere was always tremendous."

Kevin Johnson Diary Entry 6

This is the latest Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson diary entry as he enters his last day of training ahead of this Saturdays championship fight against WBC heavyweight champ Vitali Klitschko in Berne,

“Today was a big day here in Berne for me. Started it with my last day of sparring. I was sharp, crisp, focused and in a good place, my body is reacting exactly the way that I need it to so I am good to go.

“I am in the best shape of my life. I had my press conference with Vitali today and got a chance to see him face to face one more time before the weigh-in on Friday.

“He seemed to be in a good mood but all of that is going to change on Saturday when I take the WBC title from him. Its all business from here on out.

“We kept it cool at the presser. No theatrics, no threats just business. We’re both professionals. Nothing personal. I’m focused and ready to shock the world. I made the final arrangements for my friends and family that has come to watch the fight because after today, I won’t have any contact with anyone other than my team. I am in a zone and I plan on staying that way until I accomplish my goal of becoming the next heavyweight champion of the world.

“I know what the naysayers say about my chances but I also know that nobody ever sees the big upsets. They always catch everyone by surprise and come Saturday, they won’t see the Kingpin come in, but they will sure as hell see me when I leave. Too all my fans back in the U.S, especially Atlanta and Asbury Park, pay attention, keep your eyes glued to the TV and watch me do what I do.”

Valuev Predicts Klitschko KO Over Johnson

Former WBA heavyweight champion Nicolai Valuev has recently stated that he believes Vitali will easily dispose of the American heavyweight contender Kevin Johnson when they meet this Saturday in Berne, Switzerland. Here's what Valuev had to say:

“When I was preparing for the bout with Monte Barrett I worked with Johnson in Chicago. After that he came to Germany to spar with me. To tell you the truth, the American is nothing special as a boxer. We worked with him only because of his speed – he has fast left hand."

“I think that Klitschko will win by a knockout, and a clean one, not technical. Though I won’t predict in which round. Of course I will cheer for Vitali. Why do I have to support Johnson?"

Valuev also thinks that even though he has no belt a fight between him and one of the Klitschko's would still be lucrative...

“Now the most painful issue for the Klitschko brothers is gone - the financial question. I've lost my title, though I don't think that I lost to David Haye. But that happened and now I’m not in the place to dictate financial conditions. But I think that it’s undeniable fact that my bout with Klitschko is still the most desired fight for the post-Soviet countries

Haye Says Bring On The Klitschko's!

After the fight and becoming the new WBA heavyweight champion Saturday night over Nicolai Valuev, David Haye had a few words about how he is ready for a match up with the Klitschko's. He also talked about his performance and how he believed he won the fight 8 rounds to 4 and how he will have to take on the mandatory John Ruiz. Here's the video.

Haye vs Valuev Video

In a fight that could have been scored either way in my opinion, David Haye came out on top with the win and is the new WBA champion over Nicolai Valuev this Saturday night in Nuremberg, Germany. Here is the video..

Haye vs Valuev Stats

Haye vs Valuev Rounds 1 & 2

Haye vs Valuev Rounds 3 & 4

Haye vs Valuev Rounds 5 & 6

Haye vs Valuev Scorecards

So I honestly was not impressed with Haye's performance. All the things he promised he would do such as making the fight exciting by taking chances and not just sitting back and waiting he did not do for almost all the fight. He sat back and he did not get the knockout as he promised. I actually think Holyfield did a better job against Valuev than Haye, and I still think Holyfield got robbed.

How do I think Haye would fair against the Klitschko's? Not a chance this guy is going to do anything to the Klitschko's. If Haye is smart, he will squeeze out as much money as he can fighting defenses over in the UK, and stay away from the Klitschko's for as long as he can.

Rappaport Denies Vitali Klitschko vs Maskaev

Oleg Maskaev's name had been brought up as a potential match-up for the WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to fight in December. The veteran promoter of former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev, Dennis Rappaport has denied reports that Maskaev could face Klitschko.

“No one has contacted us about the fight,” said Rappaport on Wednesday afternoon. Fred Kesch, the manager of Maskeav, also denied that Maskaev could be next for Klitschko.

However, Maskaev is scheduled to face someone on December 11th at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California against a name opponent.

Shannon Briggs On Blog Talk Radio

Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs was recently on blog talk radio and had a few words about his future in the division.

He plans on fighting once a month starting next month to get back into title contention. He also believes the landscape right now in boxing is good, and there are some really good boxers out there right now just not being showcased. He says he is down to about 260 and plans on losing more weight. He also surprisingly complimented the Klitschko's and was really impressed with Vitali Klitschko's win over Sam Peter.

You can listen to what he had to say below. He comes on the show at the 22 minute mark.

Klitschko vs Chambers In December?

Looks like the current WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko could be fighting the current WBO #1 mandatory challenger "Fast" Eddie Chambers on December 12th, 2009. The original WBO mandatory challenger was Alexander Dimitrenko, but Chambers recently fought Dimitrenko in what Alexander thought would be just another good opponent on his resume and Chambers ended up winning the fight. The fight will most likely be in Germany and will be broadcast on HBO.

Many thought that Wladimir would face the IBF mandatory Alexander Povetkin, but it is said that Povetkin is listening to his new trainer Teddy Atlas and will plan on fighting one more time before stepping in the ring with Wladimir Klitshcko. So most likely it appears that Wladimir Klitschko and Chambers will fight on December 12th.

Chambers Quotes

"I've been thinking about this happening for - you don't want to know how long. I've worked really hard to get here. Now all I need to do is cash in."

Chambers' Trainer and Manager Quotes

"Eddie has no fear of fighting big guys. In a way Dimitrenko was the perfect guy to fight before we fight Klitschko. He [Dimitrenko] may even be more athletic than Klitschko."

Should be a great fight, but no way is Dimitrenko more athletic than Wladimir. That is a joke I hope even from Chambers' trainer and manager!

Brewster To Fight Oloukun

Former WBO heavyweight champion "Relentless" Lamon Brewster (35-4, 30 KO´s) will take on Gbenga Oloukun (16-1, 10 KOs) on August 29th, 2009 on the undercard of the WBO Cruiserweight Title Fight between Victor Emilio Ramirez and Marco “Captain” Huck.

This will be the 2nd fight with team Sauerland since defeating Michael Sprott this last March by a easy points victory. It should also be noted that Brewster is one of the few people to have ever defeated Wladimir Klitschko, although Wladimir did defeat him last year in a easy TKO victory via a rematch.

Brewster Quotes

“I expect to put on a great performance and show how good I really am. I believe I am about two fights away from the world title. Training is going really well. I look forward to coming back to Germany.”

Chris Arreola Interview

This is a new video interview with top American heavyweight contender Chris "The Nightmare" Arreola where he talks about his upcoming fight with current WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko on September 26th, 2009.

Arreola Quote

"I got my shot. I believe it's my time and I deserve this time...it don't matter if it's Vitali, Wladimir or even with Travis Walker, it's kill or be killed, you know? When I went down, I didn't like it so I had to get back up and whoop some ass."

Arreola Interview

Henry Ramirez Interview

This is a new video interview showing Chris Arreola's trainer Henry Ramirez as he talks about how Arreola will put up a great fight against Vitali Klitschko on September 26th.

Ramirez Quote

"I can guarantee you this, Chris Arreola is going to stand by what he says. He's not going to come out there and get jabbed to death. Chris is going to come out guns blazing. We're going to take the fight to Klitschko and like you said, win, lose or draw, Chris is going to put on an exciting performance."

Jones Says He'd Fight Haye Or Klitschko's

This is a new audio video showcasing a recent interview with future hall of famer and multi division belt holder Roy Jones Jr. where he talks about his current situation and how he would be more than glad to take on David Haye or the Klitschko's at heavyweight.

It should be noted that he thinks he could beat the Klitschko's because he thinks Chris Byrd beat them or at least one of them! Byrd only beat Vitali and it was because of Vitai's shoulder injury while ahead greatly on all score cards. His brother Wladimir won the 2 fights he had with Byrd very easily.

Lance Whitaker Interview

This is a exclusive interview from James Slater with heavyweight contender Lance "Mount" Whitaker 33-5-1(27)(Used to be known as "Goofi" oddly enough). He is scheduled to fight on August 21st with his last fight being unanimous decision win last month after a 15 month layoff against Danny Batchelder. He's 6'8" tall and thinks he can beat the Klitschko's, but should be noted that he lost to Sultan Ibragimov, who is the same man who lost his IBF belt rather easily to current IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

James Slater: Thanks for taking time to speak with me, Lance. First of all, have you an opponent lined up for your next fight?

Lance Whitaker: Yes, I'm fighting a guy named Ellis, last name Ellis, on August 21st.

J.S: Matthew Ellis, the British fighter?

L.W: Yes. I don't know too much about him. I'll take care of business on the 21st.

J.S: With this latest comeback you are on, the main goal is to fight for a world title obviously?

L.W: Yes. I had a bad injury in my last fight, when I lost on points to Jason Estrada. I tore my left bicep in the first round. I tried to fight on and get the win, but I was fighting for almost ten-rounds with just one arm. But I'm back now, I'm strong and healthy, and I feel good. I've been working my jab, which is something new for me, and I feel 27, not 37.

J.S: Who promotes you now?

L.W: I'm promoted by John Ellis now. I have a good corner around me, my trainer Vernon is a great trainer. Yeah, I feel good.

J.S: After all you've already achieved - what with good wins over guys like Monte "Two Gunz" Barrett and Oleg Maskaev - you feel you still have a lot left in the tank? You have a lot left to offer?

L.W: I have a lot left. A lot left. I've had time off, I've never taken much punishment. I'm big, I'm strong and I've been working my jab and on combinations. I'm older now and I'm smarter. I'm more mature and wiser.

J.S: Is it the Klitschkos you really want?

L.W: Yes. I know I can beat them and I hope I get the shot at them. I want to get the momentum going with a couple of wins - I'd like to fight a top-ten guy in a couple of months - and then fight either Klitschko. My fitness is good and I have the height and the size to beat them.

J.S: Are they as good as people say? You obviously think the Klitschkos are beatable and that with your height of 6'8" you can do it?

L.W: That's right. They're beatable, it's just that nobody has fought them and showed that. But they haven't fought anybody like me before. Someone who will fight them, who won't be scared and stand off. I'm big and strong and I'm a fighter and I'll fight them. I'd use my jab and my combinations.

J.S: Would you be interested in a fight with Nikolai Valuev, if a fight with a Klitschko doesn't come off?

L.W: Yes, for sure. That would definitely be a good opportunity. As a matter of fact, we spoke about that fight around a month ago. I've sparred with guys that are 6'11," so the height is nothing new to me.

J.S: In your comeback fight last month, you won a UD over ten-rounds against Danny Batchelder. How would you rate your performance in that fight?

L.W: I felt good. I got rid of a lot of rust. I broke one of his ribs in the fifth round, and he told me later I was the toughest fighters he'd ever fought. On a rating I'd give myself a C-plus. I'll get a lot better.

J.S: Would you like to get a KO next time out?

L.W: I just want to get the work. As long as I get the victory. I've scored a lot of KO's in the past, I don't got looking for them, they just come.

J.S: Have you been sparring with anyone of note recently?

L.W: I've been getting good work with guys like Joe Hanks and some other big guys. I'll be working with Chris Arreola next week.

J.S: Well, it's been great speaking with you, Lance. You plan to get past Matthew Ellis, get a top-ten name opponent and then get back in the title picture. Do you have any timeframe in mind?

L.W: My manager has a plan. You know how the game works - beat a rated guy first, then get a title shot. I'd like to get a title shot some time late next year.

J.S: Best wishes with your comeback, and good luck for August 21st.

L.W: Thank you.
