Klitschko To Face Adamek In September

It's official. One of the Klitschko, Vitali (41-2, 38 KOs) or Wladimir (55-3, 49 KOs), will face former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion turned heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (43-1, 28 KOs) this September.

The deal assumes at least one the Klitscho's win their next fights (Wladimir will face Dereck Chisora on April 30th while Vitali faces Solis on March 19th ) and Adamek wins his next fight which will be against an opponent yet to be named on most likely April 16th or 19th. If both brothers win they will decide which one of them will face Adamek, but both sides have said if that were the case it would most likely to be Wladimir.

The fight will take place at a new soccer stadium being built in either Warsaw or Wroclaw, Poland. There are 4 new stadiums being built in Poland for the 2012 European Soccer Championships and that two of the stadiums are bidding for this fight.

Kathy Duva Quotes

**Main events CEO

"I am ecstatic. I can't even put it into words. To work so hard with Tomasz with a goal in mind -- moving him up to heavyweight, getting a heavyweight title fight. We got him there and we got a good deal."

**Regarding the stadiums being built in Poland

"There is this window of opportunity for this fight because of the stadiums being built in Poland. It will be a huge event in Poland."

** Regarding Adamek not facing Samuel Peter as a tune-up (he was originally going to fight in a IBF tournament to announce the new IBF mandatory and face Peter).

"That's a pretty good bet." -- laughing

**On which brother he'd rather face..

"Either one, their option. We don't care which one it is. They have to tell us something like 90 days before the fight which one it will be. Tomasz's attitude is, 'I want a heavyweight title fight. I don't care which one of them I fight.'"

**On how long it took to negotiate

"It took us less than three weeks to get this done. Everybody had the same objective -- to make the biggest, best event we can and everybody make the most money we can. We're very excited. This has been the plan for the 2½ years we've worked with Tomasz. This has been the goal and game plan. I'm happy it all came together and we are happy with the deal."

**On the issue of Haye and the Klitschko's going back and forth on deals

"I didn't have any of the problems other people talk about. I've had a long relationship with [Klitschko adviser] Shelly Finkel for something like 30 years and that probably helped. But when the time came to talk to Bernd, we were in synch right away. I know how to get a deal done. I didn't have any problem with them at all. And I had a fighter who said, 'This is what I want, please go out and get it.'"

Bernd Boente Quotes

**Klitschko's manager

"We made some changes, their side and our side. We now agree on everything. We have a go from both sides for a fight in September."

**On Klitschko's winning their next fights

"Knock on wood, both brothers win their respective fights and then we will make a decision."

Peter Camp Confident In Win Over Klitschko

The camp of former WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter seems to think that they will win come this Saturday night and that Wladimir Klitschko's behavior change recently is really because he is uptight about his upcoming fight with Peter.  Here is what Peter's manager Ivaylo Gotzev had to say:

“He’s definitely uptight. I’ve known Wladimir for 15 years and he’s starting to realize who will be in the other corner come Saturday night. That’s why he’s not himself this week. He’s already having cold and sweaty Nigerian nightmares!”

Peter also remarked, "I hear and see what they’re trying to do, I just hope he comes to fight and not wrestle." This is in reference to Wladimir showing Peter his belts but telling him that that's as close as he will ever get to them amongst calling out Peter at a recent training session for him to come down to the ring while he did his public workout...

Haye Wants To Fight Vitali Klitschko

As the IBF's deadline of May 17 to make a unification fight between champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA champion David Haye draws near, it appears that Haye doesn't want to fight Wladimir. According to Wladmir's side they are willing to give him a 50/50 split so there should be no reason this should not seem like a fair offer.

Haye's co-promoter Chris Mayer from Sauerland Event said he spoke with the Russian reporter Alexander Pavlovu of SportBox and because of that he feels that the deal won't get done be tomorrow's deadline, and says Haye would rather fight Wladimir's brother Vitali.

Chris Mayer Quotes

"I have this gut-feeling (a deal won't get done). David just fought John Ruiz on April 3 and wants to take a rest and wants more time to devote to his family. He is also more interested in making a fight with the older Klitschko brothers."

"A fight with Vitali could lead to a further unification against the winner of Wladimir and Alexander Povetkin. I don't think Haye and Klitschko will agree by May 17, the deadline set by the IBF to end negotiations."

Haye's manager Adam Booth also confirms Haye wanting to face Vitali over Wladimir..

Adam Booth Quotes

"David would like a fight with Vitali. He is better than his brother, and more experienced and he's stronger. Besides, Wladimir has to defend his title against Povetkin. I think, after Vitali's fight with Albert Sosnowski, all of us will try to make a deal for a big fight between David and Vitali Klitschko."

Again, there should be no reason why this fight shouldn't occur. Wladimir has called him out recently on a video directed towards him and heavyweight fans after Haye has called Wladimir out for over a year, and is now being silent and letting his manager and promoter's do the talking? When did this Haye show up? This is the same guy who confronted Wladimir on the stairs and now he won't at least defend himself for Wladimir telling him on a video that has been watched all over the world that Haye is "bitching out"? Isn't it strange that Booth doesn't explain why the negotiations haven't been successful? Wladimir wouldn't be tied up with a Povetkin fight if they were to just sign the contract! 50/50 is more than fair there should be no reason this fight shouldn't go through unless Haye is ducking, which I think he is....
