HBO Won't Show Klitschko vs Povetkin?
For those of you who looked forward to the Ring, IBF, WBO, IBO heavyweight championship fight between current champion Wladimir Klitschko and 1996 Superheavyweight Olympic champion vs the #1 IBF mandatory and 2004 Superheavyweight Olympic champ Alexander Povetkin, well you may still be able to watch it somewhere(most likely online), but not on HBO!
Who knows what HBO is thinking. They supported the Klitschko's in the past and were going to show the Povetkin fight back in December 2008. So why not now in September 2010 less than 2 years later?
According to the Klitschko team, mainly Bernd Boente and adviser Shelly Finkel, they made a deal with the Senior Vice President of HBO Sports Kery Davis and then things were later cut by the President of HBO Ross Greenburg who stated he has no interest in buying this fight, and even stated that he is not interested in fights unless the Klitschko's face David Haye or Tomasz Adamek. Obviously the Klitschko camp is furious. Here are some quotes from those in the Klitschko camp.
Bernd Boente Quotes
"We are really frustrated. Shelly is furious. Wladimir, too. We were counting on it. This cost us a quarter of a million dollars. If they had told us this at the beginning, we would have had the fight on Showtime. Now we have neither. Not only is HBO screwing us, they are screwing American boxing fans. I am not only surprised, I am shocked."So whats going on here is HBO allegedly promised the 11th, while Showtime needed the 18th, but they went with HBO and got the venue but now can't do the 18th so this is costing them $250,000 since it won't air on Showtime.
"What HBO did to us is absolutely disgusting. Kery promised me and also Shelly on the telephone that he will do the fight. We had agreed. The worst thing is that Kery said, 'We can do the fight on the 11th but not on the 18th.' Showtime could do it on the 18th but not on the 11th. We made a deal with HBO for the 11th and we said to the German soccer league before they planned their schedule to please make sure that on the 11th there is no home game for Frankfurt because we have an American TV station on board. They said OK. And then HBO screwed us and now we lose $250,000."
"If we knew HBO wouldn't do the fight, we would have asked for [the stadium on] Sept. 18 and Showtime would have shown the fight. Now we lose all that money completely, and it's HBO's fault.
"[Davis] should have talked to his boss first before you promise something. You can't promise me and Shelly and then not do it. Showtime played it very straight with us about their situation. HBO did not. I'll tell you one thing: If either brother ever fights David Haye, I will make sure and the brothers will make sure that HBO doesn't cover the fight and that it will go to Showtime.
"HBO's lie cost us $250,000. It's not like Wladimir is fighting a bum. Povetkin is undefeated, he's an Olympic champion and everyone ranks him very highly. A lot of people want to see the fight.
"Wladimir is totally pissed and really disappointed. He thought a promise is a promise, and if you promise someone, you have to stand by your promise. We have been on HBO for 23 fights [between the brothers], but I guess that doesn't mean anything. Maybe Ross has something against Germany or Ukrainians. I don't know what it is. You'd think maybe he would call Wladimir and Vitali and say he's sorry."
"Whether Wladimir or Vitali fight Haye eventually, we will make sure the fight is not on HBO. HBO will not cover anymore Klitschko fights. On the Haye fight, Wladimir said to me that HBO thinks that they will have it 100 percent because they always overpay if they want something. But for him it is not about the money, it's about fair play."
When asked if he will take Showtime even if HBO offers a lot Boente said, "Yes, absolutely."
Also, if they can't get it on a network like ESPN he said, "If it's not ESPN, we'll do it pay-per-view."
Ray Stallone who is a HBO spokesman had a few words in regards to Boente's assertion:
"HBO's goal, as always, is to televise the biggest fights in the sport. We recognize that both Wladimir and Vitali are among the sport's most accomplished performers. With a combined total of 23 appearances on HBO, it's reasonable to say that the relationship has been productive for all parties. Going forward, our position is clear: If a heavyweight title fight between Wladimir or Vitali and David Haye can be made, regardless of the site, we will be first in line to make an offer to televise it in the U.S. In addition, if any other opponent emerges that we think will get the U.S. market excited about a prospective title fight, we will surely be in line to try and buy the fight for the U.S. market."
"HBO wants the heavyweight division to thrive, and when Wladimir or Vitali fight in the U.S. or take on any opponent that we think will register in this country, we are prepared to discuss those fights."

Harrison Wants Fight With Klitschko's
Looks like you can add Audley Harrison to the latest fighter saying he wants to fight the Klitschko's. Audley is on another "comeback" fight and hopes a win in his next fight will put him on route to a heavyweight championship fight with one of the Klitschko's.
He wants to fight them rather than Haye he says because he feels the public eye views them as champions(stating the obvious are we).
He might want to double check who has which belts though, because as you can see in this video, he points out Wladimir Klitsclhko specifically as the brother to fight and then goes on to say that a fight with Haye then as "WBC" champion would be good. Wladimir Klitschko isnt the WBC champion that's his brother. Anyway, on to the video you can see what he had to say..

Klitschko Brothers 2009
It was a great year for the Klitschko brothers in 2009. With both brothers champions, they defended their titles a total of 4 times. Vitali started the year off defending his WBC belt with a great TKO victory over previous unbeaten cruiserweight turned top ranked heavyweight Juan Carlos Gomez on March 21st, while Wladimir defended his WBO, IBF, and IBO belts against the WBA champion in recess Ruslan Chagaev on June 20th by 9th round TKO.
It should be noted that Wladimir was supposed to fight former cruiserweight champion David Haye, but Haye cited a injury which took him out of the match-up. Rather than make fans wait for a undetermined amount of time(Haye and his camp kept changing the dates to postpone), Wladimir decided to go with a fight with someone, and that's how the fight with Ruslan materialized. Unfortunately, even though Ruslan was technically the "champion in recess" Wladimir did not fight for the WBA belt, and Valuev remained champion although Ruslan had beaten him already. The reason Valuev was champion is because Chagaev was injured during the maximum time allowed to defend his belts to a mandatory challenger and Valuev ended up fighting Ruiz for the belt and won leaving Chagaev "champion in recess"
Due to an injury Wladimir actually occurred before fighting June 20th and which escalated during his fight, he was unable to compete for the rest of 2009(There was a possibilty to fight at the very end of the year, but their were no open slots to show a fight of his on HBO so he and his team opted to wait till the next year). However, his brother Vitali continued the domination by defeating the #1 American heavyweight at the time Chris Arreola on September 26th and defeating him by 10th round TKO.
Vitali fought one more time by the end of the year on December 12th against the undefeated and boastful Kevin Johnson in which he easily got a 12 round decision victory. Johnson predicted to KO Klitschko and ended up cowering the entire fight and strangely enough trash talking at the same time. Who knows what his strategy was(most likely to just survive) but it certainly wasn't to win.
So, overall a great year for the Klitschko's even though it would have been nice for Wladimir to fight another time. Not entirely his fault though, he would have fought around March but was backed up by Haye's promises and ended up getting a injury after he fought Chagaev. Look for Wladimir to fight "Fast" Eddie Chambers this year. According to boxrec.com the fight is already scheduled for March 20th but I haven't heard an actual declaration of the fight being a go as of yet. Also, look for Vitali to make a voluntary defense potentially against the former WBA champ Nicolai Valuev and possibly another fight later in the year with David Haye after the new WBA champion fights his mandatory John Ruiz.....
Here's a good video showing a recap of the Klitschko fights in 2009(in German). Enjoy!

Klitschko Brothers Receive 2009 Bambi Award
The Bambi's, which are like the American Oscar's, are a German award ceremony equivalent that have been going on in Germany since 1948. The Bambi's recognize achievement in television, film, music, sport, fashion, and social engagement. Amongst those to receive an award in 2009 were the Klitschko brothers Wladimir and Vitali Klitscho. The Track and field gold medalist Edwin Moses presented the trophy to Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko brothers for excellence in the Sports field.
Here's a video of the Klitschko's accepting their award. They are speaking in German of course, and if anyone would care to translate or give a link to a page with the translation, the English speaking Klitschko fans would appreciate it.
Here's an alternate video which is a little more detailed and longer..
If you interested in seeing some pictures of the Klitschko's at the Bambi's you can go here.

Klitschkoblog.blogspot.com To KlitschkoBlog.com
It's been a year and a half since this blog has started as a blogspot address. Klitschkoblog.blogspot.com can be accessed for now on after this post at KlitschkoBlog.com .
I have decided to do this because it will give fans of this site access without typing in as much into their browser, so I actually can actually migrate these pages not blogspot, and so potential fans in the future can find my site easier through word of mouth or through easier search engine rankings due to a higher page rank with a .com address. According to google, the .com address should be working in at most 3 days.
So, thanks for all the fans of this site and the Klitschko brothers, and expect more great Klitschko news in the years to come!

Klitschko vs Klitschko?
According to what was recently said by the current WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, there may be a possibility he could face his older brother and WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to determine who is #1 in the world.
The only thing that has prevented this from happening in the past was they both swore to never fight each other as wished by their mother. But, Wladimir has stated that they could talk to their mom again and see if she has any different views now that they are both champions and the worldwide demand for such a fight would be astronomical. Here is what was said:
Wladimir On Why He Could Not Fight His Brother
"because our mother would go crazy"
Wladimir On Talking To Their Mom
"We are going to talk to our mother again because we know how much interest such a fight would create and it would mean that one of us would be the supreme heavyweight champion. Of course she would not be happy and if we did fight I would be very worried about the health of my brother because it would be very bloody and very bad. We are very competitive and it would be for real. There would be no fix."
Wladimir On Who Would Win
"I am the better technical boxer but he is the stronger of the two. It would be interesting."

Klitschko vs Haye Almost A Done Deal
It appears that the fight between current WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko(52-3, 46 KOs) and former cruiserweight champion turned heavyweight David Haye(22-1, 22 KOs) is almost set for the planned date of June 20th. The contract has not been signed yet, but it appears that it is very likely it will be signed soon in the next couple days according to representatives of Wladimir Klitschko who contacted fightnews.
There is also a potential match up with his big brother and WBC champion Vitali Klitschko(37-2, 36 KOs)and Chris Arreola(26-0, 23 KOs) who was originally set to face Wladimir if the Haye talks did not work out. However, Arreola has to get past his scheduled fight with Jameel McCline(39-9, 23 KOs) first on April 11th.

Wladimir & Vitali Share Plans For Their Future
On Wednesday January 28th, 2009, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko held a press conference in Kiev, Ukraine and discussed their future plans. Vitali confirmed that he will face the WBC #1 mandatory Juan Carlos Gomez on March 21st, and Wladimir said that he will most likely face David Haye June 20th in London at the Stamford Bridge stadium in Chelsea, but if negotiations break down he may still face Chris Arreola from the United States on May 16th in Los Angeles, CA.
Vitali Klitschko Quotes
*In regards to facing Gomez:
“For me it is very important and also bears an unusual component. The matter is that the daughter of my trainer Fritz Sdunek was married to Juan Carlos Gomez, and now his promoter is in a relationship with his daughter. But for me it’s not a problem, as we are professionals. I know Gomez well. We boxed together at Universum. But I am sure of a victory and I will do everything to knock him out. Then I wish to fight against WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev so that we have the four championship titles. We’ll make it!"
Wladimir Klitschko Quotes
*In regards to David Haye:
“He has a very big mouth, but I will make him say less, then he won’t claim that he’s better than me. Many who get into the ring with me say that they’ll knock me out, but the end result is they lose.”
*In regards to facing Chris Arreola:
“The contract on the fight with David Haye is not signed yet. If the fight with Haye breaks down, the next opponent will be Chris Arreola."

Klitschko Brothers - Their Year- 2008
2008 was a very successful year for the Klitschko brothers Wladimi & Vitali. The year started out in February 23rd with Wladimir capturing the IBF strap to add to his IBO and WBO belts against former IBF heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov. Wladimir won via a 12 round unanimous decision at the Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York.
Then, on July 12th he successfully defended his belts by defeated WBO #1 mandatory contender Tony "The Tiger" Thompson, who previously had beaten Luan Krasniqi, via 11th round spectacular KO.
On October 11th, Wladimir's brother Vitali made an amazing comeback by fighting current WBC heavyweight champ Samuel "The Nigerian Nightmare" Peter at the O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany. He easily handled Peter with his jab and ring generalship until Peter quit on his stool after the 8th round.
With Vitali's win, Wladimir & Vitali Klitschko became the 1st brothers in history to hold simultaneous belts at heavyweight. This itself was the most amazing accomplishment for the year, not just because of the record books, but because this had been such a long awaited dream for the 2 brothers. They came very close to getting their wish back in April 2004, but 4 and a half years later got it anyway.
Finally, on December 13th, as a late replacement to the injured #1 IBF mandatory Alexander Povetkin, Wladimir Klitschko defended his belts against former 2 time heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman. The fight was a no contest from the start with Wladimir easily handling Rahman with his jab, and Rahman finding no answer or plan to get inside. Wladimir had him out by 44 second mark in round 7 for a TKO win.
With these wins Wladimir Klitschko record now stands --> won 52 (KO 46) + lost 3 (KO 3) + drawn 0 = 55 while his brother Vitali stands --> won 36 (KO 35) + lost 2 (KO 2) + drawn 0 = 38.
Congratulations to the Klitschko's on an amazing year in boxing, and we all look forward to another one in 2009. Future potential fights for Vitali include the WBC #1 mandatory Juan Carlos Gomez, and the very vocal former cruiserweight champion turned heavyweight David "Hayemaker" Haye, while Wladimir has potential battles with top ranked undefeated American heavyweight Chris "The Nightmare" Arreola, and IBF #1 mandatory Alexander Povetkin.

Klitschko's Want All The Belts
After Vitali Klitschko recaptured his WBC heavyweight championship belt last Saturday October, 11th, both Vitali and his brother Wladimir have 3 of the 4 main championship belts. Wladimir holds the IBF and WBO belts. The only belt that's not in the Klitschko family is the WBA belt which is held by Nicolai Valuev. It should be noted that this is the 1st time in history that 2 brothers held versions of the heavyweight title together.
The WBA champion in recess is Ruslan Chagaev since he had his belt stripped for not being able to fight within the obligated time frame and should be a mandatory for Valuev to fight. None-the-less the Klitschko's want this final belt, and Vitali may choose to fight Nicolai. Here's a recent video of Vitali talking about such matters.
