Rappaport Denies Vitali Klitschko vs Maskaev

Oleg Maskaev's name had been brought up as a potential match-up for the WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to fight in December. The veteran promoter of former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev, Dennis Rappaport has denied reports that Maskaev could face Klitschko.

“No one has contacted us about the fight,” said Rappaport on Wednesday afternoon. Fred Kesch, the manager of Maskeav, also denied that Maskaev could be next for Klitschko.

However, Maskaev is scheduled to face someone on December 11th at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California against a name opponent.

  1. Kfan have you heard about a Vitali scuffle during a political gathering in Kiev. I've posted it at the other.Said he was punched in the face. LOL. I'm sure you can find more links about it. Here's a link to a picture.

  3. Hey Kfan a little update with Wladimir and the IBF

Povetkin vs Chambers Rematch For The IBF-Interim Belt?

    http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=22856

I find this funny that the first time Wladimir isn't able to defend his _title_ against a mandatory challenger due to his shoulder surgery; the IBF is ready to hand out an Interim belt. I believe it was Povetkin who suffered an Achilles injury and then his new and current trainer Teddy Atlas postponed a potential make up fight because his fighter was not ready. Yet they still maintained their #1 status. All be it with a record of only 17 victories. Povetkin has made Wladimir wait for more then a year for a match and has fought no one worthy to mention during that time. This is a complete joke if the IBF follows through with this.

    Povetkin eyes IBF interim belt

Russian star Alexander Povetkin (17-0, 12 KOs) will fight for the IBF Interim Heavyweight Championship, the IBF has confirmed. “That is great news for Alexander,” Sauerland Event General Manager Chris Meyer said. “He has been waiting for his _title_ shot for such a long time. We are very happy that the IBF grants Alexander this chance.” The 30-year-old Olympic gold medal winner has been waiting for his IBF _title_ shot ever since beating Eddie Chambers, who is now the WBO mandatory challenger, in an elimination tournament in January 2008. A first showdown with Klitschko failed to materialise in December 2008 when Povetkin injured his ankle in practice. The IBF ordered Klitschko to defend his _title_ against Povetkin before September 13, 2009. However, the Ukrainian champion opted to fight Ruslan Chagaev in June 2009 instead. He needed to undergo shoulder surgery afterwards and has been declared unfit to fight until the end of 2009. Since Klitschko´s latest injury significantly extends Povetkin´s waiting time yet again, the IBF ordered an interim _title_ fight. “Finally, the waiting is over for Povetkin,” Meyer added. “He gets what he deserves – a world _title_ fight in the near future. We are all tired of waiting for Klitschko.”

If Eddie Chambers does not want to fight Povetkin for the IBF Interim _title_, Samuel Peter would be the next in line. “We are waiting to see who the opponent will be,” Meyer added. “We will then work out the date and the venue as soon as possible.” The _title_ shot means that Povetkin will not take a tune-up fight in Baltimore on October 16.

I've been scanning the internet forums on this topic and for the most part everyone has been saying the same as I have. That this is a total disgrace by the IBF and the Povetkin team for their flip flopping on who has been postponing and ducking who. If this does happen I hope Wladimir becomes very angry and destroys the winner of the fake belt
